Harapaki House is a considered alteration and addition which transforms a 1940's brick and tile house into a contemporary enclave. The brief was to create an open living, dining, and kitchen space that opens to a new pool, with a primary suite situated above the extension. The challenge was to achieve this while preserving the character and integrity of the original structure.
The new addition is elegantly clad in weatherboards, harmonizing with the existing house's accent pieces. This choice of materials ensures a comfortable transition between the old and new, maintaining the home's historical charm. The extension not only doubles the floor plan but also introduces a flood of natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere throughout.
Inside, the new living spaces are designed to embrace the outdoors. Expansive windows frame views of the pool, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The primary suite above offers a serene retreat, combining modern luxury with the warmth of the home's original architecture.
This sensitive, light-filled addition is a blend of preservation and innovation, enhancing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the home while respecting its storied past.
